1995 AD GERMANY FRIEDRICH BECKER RADSCHLAGER CUBE

Radschlager ("Cartwheeler"), a stainless-steel kinetic sculpture the German goldsmith and kinetic artist Friedrich Becker (1922-1997) installed on Dusseldorf's Klosterstrasse in 1995: a four-and-a-half-metre cube built from tumbling geometric forms, in the same mechanically precise, polished-metal idiom Becker brought to his kinetic jewellery and public sculpture throughout his career. It takes its name from the traditional cartwheeling street performers who are themselves a symbol of the city.
