1787 AD USA CONEWAGO MEETING HOUSE
The Conewago Chapel, built of brownstone between 1785 and 1787 in rural Adams County, the oldest stone Catholic church in the United States still standing. Jesuits had held mission services in the area since the 1720s, and the 1787 building, with three-foot-thick walls and an attached rectory finished the same year, was dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, reportedly the first American church to carry that dedication; it was raised to a minor basilica by Pope John XXIII in 1962.
