1544 AD GERMANY SEBASTIAN MUNSTER COSMOGRAPHIA

A page from the first edition of Sebastian Munster's Cosmographia, printed at Basel by Heinrich Petri in 1544: the earliest description of the world written in German, mixing geography, history and natural history with two dozen double-page maps and numerous woodcut views. Its popularity ran to some 35 further editions and reprints across five languages over the following century.
