1544 AD ITALY ARCHIMEDES OPERA

1544 AD ITALY ARCHIMEDES OPERA

The editio princeps of Archimedes' collected works, Greek and Latin text together with Eutocius's commentary, printed at Basel in 1544 by Johannes Hervagius and edited by Thomas Venatorius. The Greek text descended from a single Byzantine manuscript copied in the mid-15th century for Cardinal Bessarion, and this printing is generally credited with opening the wider Archimedean revival in European mathematics.
